UPDATED 10.34am: Two people were taken to Tauranga Hospital following a collision involving heavy haulage trucks on State Highway 2 this morning.

The two men suffered moderate and minor injuries and were both taken to hospital via St John ambulance for further treatment, Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said.

EARLIER: Emergency services are heading a crash on State Highway 2 near Katikati, the second in less than a week in the area.

A Fire Service communications spokesman said the collision involved two trucks at the intersection of SH2 and Westbank Drive in Aongatete at 8.06am.

Firefighters were called to the crash after initial reports an occupant was trapped but they have since managed to free themselves, he said.
