Papamoa will have a Member of Parliament in residence when Todd Muller sets up a new electorate office in the suburb in April on Domain Rd.
The Bay of Plenty MP said Papamoa accounted for more than 50 per cent of his electorate so it made sense to relocate from the Tauranga office he currently shared with Simon Bridges.
"For me it's all about being amongst the people I am working for. Papamoa is well over half the electorate and growing quickly.
"It's not an easy call because sharing with Simon has been great and he's been so supportive of me as a new MP."
"But in my view the greater obligation is to be based in your electorate where it's easier for your constituents to connect with you."
Papamoa residents had already raised a number of issues including supported ongoing growth, the Te Okuroa Drive development and the conclusion of the Tauranga Eastern Link.
While a number wished to raise their own personal issues that they hope we can advocate on their behalf, he said.
"But out and about in Papamoa it's a real positive community."
Mount Maunganui/Papamoa ward councillor Steve Morris said it was good Mr Muller was coming to the community rather than the community having to go to Tauranga to see him.
In the future he hoped there would be more collaboration between local and central government, he said.
"Whether it's community meetings or whatever, it's where you can have a one stop shop for all your business with the different branches of government."
