The weather gods have failed to smile on the recreation of a giant Renaissance masterpiece on the side of Harrington House in Tauranga's CBD.
Renowned aerosol artist Owen Dippie has waited since May to get the all clear to start work on the 27m x 11m mural, but the MetService has been unable to guarantee a week to 10-day spell of fine weather.
Priority One communications manager Annie Hill said the painting would take 10 days but every day that work was rained off would cost them an extra $1000 to hire the scissor lift and boom lift platforms.
The MetService forecasts had always featured a little rain even if downpours had not always arrived. "We are really hoping to get it done before Christmas - we are looking at the weather forecast every day."
Ms Hill said the fourth work in Mr Dippie's Larger Than Life Renaissance series on downtown buildings would be worth the wait. "It will have the biggest wow factor."
