A select number of Bay of Plenty Year 5/6 cricket-crazy girls and boys are in for an international cricketing experience they are unlikely to forget.
New Zealand Cricket is offering the opportunity for up to 20 teams of eight youngsters to participate in a quick-fire round of Kiwi Cricket at the halftime break in the first Black Caps one day international (ODI) to be played in the Western Bay of Plenty when South Africa play at the Bay Oval on October 21.
All of the selected youngsters will receive a free ticket to the match and a free T-shirt, with two match tickets available to adults who look after the teams on the day.
All the required cricket gear will be supplied, with players only needing to bring a hat, lunch and drink. Entries close for school teams on August 22.
The first Black Caps ODI at the Bay Oval completes a remarkable transformation at Blake Park, which has gone from grass to an international cricket venue complete with a modern-day pavilion in less than a decade.
