At least 11 bags of rubbish has been dumped at a popular Papamoa beach at the weekend, sparking disgust from local residents.
Papamoa couple Alastair and Mary Lock were walking through Harrison's Cut on Saturday when they came across the bags, left strewn next to a fence at the carpark. They were joined by a box of beer and what appeared to be old carpet.
The couple took a photo and sent it to the Bay of Plenty Times in the hope it would help put a stop to the illegal dumping which they labelled a ''terrible practice''.
A sign at the carpark specifically states dumping of litter, household and garden rubbish was prohibited and carried a penalty of $500.
