Aquinas College students were giving back to the community today, helping with maintenance work aboard the Pacific Hope Marine Reach research vessel.
The boat has been docked at Sulphur Point and was a hive of activity as the 50 students got stuck in with rust removal, painting and sprucing the deck.
The project was the brainchild of head girl Charlotte Skelton, after she attended a Marine Reach business breakfast earlier this year.
Other activities as part of the school's community service day include helping and gardening at kindergartens, schools, play centres and rest homes, working in charity shops and through CCS cleaning and gardening at individual's houses.
