A crash between two cars and a small truck has caused traffic to back up to Te Puna.

The crash occurred about 3pm on State Highway 2 near Te Puna.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said one person was attended to by ambulance staff at the scene.

A reporter at the scene said seven cars had been involved in accidents opposite the garden centre on the corner of State Highway 2 and Te Karaka Drive.

One car was reported to be in a ditch and one car on its side.

Traffic was backed up between Omokoroa and Te Puna but is beginning to flow again.
