This Saturday night sees more musical offerings at the Historic Village, courtesy of the Incubator's increasingly busy Jam Factory.
Saturday's gig brings two bands at the top of their game to the intimate setting of the Village Cinema - The Miltones from Auckland, supported by now-local band the Paper Cranes.
The Tauranga show is part of The Miltones' national album launch tour, and comes just weeks after their nomination and appearance at the vaunted Taite Music Prize celebration (an achievement Paper Cranes also share), and follows the release of two singles from the album: Wildfire and Glory.
Starting out in the music business as teenagers, Milly Tabak and guitarist Liam Pratt toured the country as a duo, releasing debut single Black Dahlia in 2014.
With a refreshing do-it-yourself approach, they staged Miltones gigs on the Tabak family farm, drawing over 200 people to the rural outskirts of Auckland.
The band has also toured with The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, and has shared stages with locals The Beths, Sal and the Babyshakes, The Leers and Miloux.
Milly says, "Imagination has always walked my mind to endless possibilities. One of these was recording an album, touring the country, meeting new people and sharing a love of music. I am incredibly excited, nervous and ecstatic to share what has been something I have kept close to my soul and soared in my mind's eye, since I was 14. "
The Miltones' self-titled debut album was produced by Lyttleton's Ben Edwards and it reveals the band's 70s American rock influences. It has been described as a mix of "classic fuzz guitar with exquisite melody lines, delivered with a bold, youthful, raw energy and polished with a dark country edge".
Tauranga will see Milly and Liam joined by keyboardist Guy Harrison (Hollie Smith). Some shows on the tour will also include band members Chris Marshall on bass and Tom Broome on drums. Support band Paper Cranes describe their sound as warm, yet melancholy, with " ... songs that ponder the meaning of life, love, and our fleeting existence in this beautiful world."
Husband-and-wife team Fraser and Naomi Browne are the driving force behind the group.
