Valerie Adams may not get a true gauge of how she stacks up against the other contenders before getting to the Rio Olympics.
Adams has won the Rome Diamond League meet by 80 centimetres, with a throw of 19.69 metres.
But two of her main rivals, American Michelle Carter and German Christina Schwanitz, have skipped the event and are also sitting out Sunday's meet in Birmingham, where Adams will compete.
Adams's effort in Rome is the best of the season so far, but she's yet to throw further than 20 metres in her return from major surgeries last year.
