The Wanganui Mountian Bike Club celebrated the opening of a new mountian bike track in the Harakeke Mountain Bike Park, near kaitoke, on Sunday. Surfers Brave the cold at Castlecliff south mole.
From speed stacking to "frocks on bikes" there was a wide array of activities in Wanganui over the weekend. Chronicle photographer Bevan Conley visited the speed stacking at Springvale Stadium, the River City Guitars show at the Sarjeant Gallery, the Underground Youth Fashion Show "boot camp" in the War Memorial Hall, as well as more from the La Fiesta festival.

Hundreds gathered at Pakaitore/Moutoa Gardens yesterday to mark the 17th anniversary of the 1995 occupation there. There was much meeting and greeting, food and stalls offering goods and services, and a series of ceremonies, speeches and entertainments. Brendon Deere's 'new' World War 2 Grumman Avenger arrived in to RNZAF Base Ohakea at 1500 Friday afternoon.
The first of the new NH90 helicopters that have joined the RNZAF fleet based at Ohakea was spotted in the skies over Wanganui yesterday. The Government bought nine of the Norwegian- built aircraft to replace its aged Iroquois fleet. Eight of the helicopters will be operational with the ninth kept for parts. The deal, signed in 2006, was worth more than $700 million. CORRECTION: 21/02/12 The helicopters are made by NHIndustries a European Consortium.

Central Wanganui came alive on Saturday with the events of the Rivercity Caboodle. The weather was fine and the footpaths full of people, a few of them in period costume. There was facepainting, traditional games, music, poetry, fashion and speeches. The parked cars included a sprinkling of shining vintage beauties and many of their out-of-town owners were wandering and seeing the sights.
Chronicle photographer BEVAN CONLEY had a hankering for a spin in a vintage car. He drew a lucky number and spent the day navigating for Terry Roycroft in his priceless 1925 Bugatti. Terry Roycroft knows he's a fortunate bloke because if it wasn't for his dad's passion for motorsport, then he wouldn't be tootling about in a rare two-seater 1925 Bugatti.
