Alex Powell is a sports journalist for the New Zealand Herald.
For the past decade, I've been a sports journalist with some of the country's biggest news organisations, always covering sport. I was born in England, but have lived in Aotearoa since the late-90s. All my life I've been immersed in sport, growing up watching and playing anything I could get into. As a journalist, I've been fortunate to cover a variety of sports, including the Olympics, rugby, cricket, league, football and motorsport. Since 2019, I've covered Kiwi driver Liam Lawson's rise to the Formula One ranks, and pride myself on bringing Kiwi readers news and insights from motorsport's pinnacle. In 2021, I went nocturnal for six nights to cover the Black Caps' maiden World Test Championship title, and was on the ground in France in 2023, for the Rugby World Cup, working long into the Parisian night to cover the All Blacks' one-point loss to South Africa.
