The Kyokushin Wanganui karate Club sent to fighters to the nationals in Christchurch at the weekend and returned home with a brace of gold.
Twenty-eight-year-old Chris Sheahan claimed the open men's middleweight title, while 42-year-old Tracey Boswell won the women's veteran title for the second year on end.
Co-coached by multiple national heavyweight and middleweight champion and current men's veteran heavyweight titleholder Richard Hood and multiple men's national heavyweight champion Pete Parson, the pair are no strangers to national competition.
"Chris has fought at national level numerous times, but this was his first title, while Tracey won the open women's title in 2005 and was defending her veteran women's title from last year," Hood said.
Hood, who is Boswell's partner, was also to have fought at the nationals, but badly tore his bicep muscle during training ruling him out of competition.
