The Ag Challenge Wanganui Under 16s hit the wall on Tuesday after beginning the HYRC tournament on a high.
The host team beat Pool B top seeds Horowhenua-Kapiti 27-7 on Day One, but succumbed to a skillful Wellington Development attack 36-5 on the Wanganui Collegiate grounds on Tuesday.
The two sides appearerd to match each other in size, but skill made the difference in the windy conditions allowing Wellington to score six tries to one, while slotting three conversions.
The only Wanganui try came from halfback Dillan Adole in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Wanganui will now play Wairarapa-Bush in a play off for third and fourth on Thursday. Wanganui may have an easier road to retain their third seeding in Pool B after Wairarapa-Bush were upset by Horowhenua-Kapiti 24-nil Tuesday morning. Horowhenua-Kapiti has slipped to the bottom of the table and will battle it out for the wooden spoon with East Coast.
The Pool B final is between Wellington Development, who whipped East Coast 77-nil on Tuesday, and Hawkes Bay Development.
