Reen Stratford sends down her bowl at the Castlecliff BC. Stratford and partner Marlene Foster were undefeated in their three games.
The trophies all left with the visitors after the representative round robin bowls tournaments at the Laird Park and Castlecliff greens on Saturday.
Wairarapa joining host centre Wanganui alongside Manawatu and Taranaki turned the annual tri-series tournaments into quadrangular tournaments, with the senior competition consisting of 10-person squads and the development grades being seven-person teams.
The Arnott Trophy was claimed by Taranaki after they came home strong in the final round of the afternoon.
Earlier, it had been a tough fight, as Wanganui manager Mike Morgan noted at the end of the second round at Laird Park that several of the singles, pairs and fours games were coming down to the last end.
For example, Wanganui singles player Peter Cassidy won his opening game but was then in a "toe-to-toe" struggle.
Pairs team Ian Porteous and Gavin Scrivener went from leading by six points to losing by one when the jack was moved on the last end, while Ray Park and Alan Dickson were losing by three but then pulled their game out.
However, the two point spread across all centres disappeared as Taranaki won all five games of the last round to post a runaway victory for the Arnott Trophy.
It was closer in the Duckett Trophy for the Men's Development teams, but Manawatu came through with only two losses over the day, with Wanganui finishing second.
Morgan said it was a surprise that the Taranaki Development Men lost all their games in the first two rounds, only pegging it back with two wins and a draw in the second round.
In the two inter-district trophies played between Wanganui and Taranaki, the Doug Trott trophy was easily claimed by the Taranaki Seniors, while the Des Stead trophy stayed with Wanganui Development.
Over at Castlecliff where the two women's teams were defending their trophies, selector Chris Waterson was hopeful of a Top 2 finish for the new-look squads.
However, the Wanganui Senior women finished in a three-way tie with Manawatu and Wairarapa, which went to the team in green on points differential across all the games, pushing the home side back into third spot.
"We put in an effort, we came back with our new players and new combinations," said Waterson.
"Our pairs lost 12-11 last game, got down to the last bowl.
"They had two for the draw, but the other girl pushed it out. It was a good finish in the end."
Waterson said they would have to look at another rejig for the tournaments later in the season, given the pairs did well with Reen Stratford and Marlene Foster undefeated, while Anne Loveridge and Denise Taylor won two from three.
However, the new look fours team only got one win, while the lead singles spots may also be looked at.
"There will be changes. We're in a good position, the sign's there we're holding our [national] ranking."
In the Women's Development, Wairarapa celebrated joining the annual tournament by winning the trophy, with Wanganui finishing at the back of the field.
The representative teams will now look towards the Hexagonal tournament, being held in the Manawatu on February 18-19.
