When hotpot Burgundy was beaten out of a place for the first time as the $2 favourite in the Guineas at Riccarton last month, It Has To Be You was a maiden, unplaced in three starts, that few had taken notice of.
That's all changed.
Two weeks after the Guineas, It Has To Be You produced a remarkable finish in a Pukekohe maiden to win at $25.50.
He followed up with an even more impressive Ellerslie victory and on Monday at Ellerslie he has suddenly emerged as one of those Burgundy has to beat in the $100,000 Waiwera Water Great Northern Guineas.
If Burgundy shows up in his top form - and the stable suggests he will - he is a remarkable colt and it might be asking too much of a green 3-year-old such as It Has To Be You to topple him at this point.
