Whanganui Film Society's next screening is Le Quattro Volte (The Four Times) from Italian director Michelangelo Frammartino.
Film Society president Helen Marie O'Connell says the film will not be to everyone's taste but promises that it offers "simple pleasures for those who are ready to sink into it".
"I have to agree with Time Out's Trevor Johnston who says: 'Explaining it makes it sound aridly abstract, but watching it is pure delight'."
Set in a rustic village in the mountains of Calabria, the film offers a wordless yet spellbinding take on a way of life as old as the elements, according to the LA Times.
"What a pleasure to welcome a true original. Here's a wonderful film about life, the universe and everything," wrote Trevor Johnston after seeing the film in 2011.
