The generosity of the estate of Christian and Belle Alexander has seen another major milestone achieved at Wanganui's Bason Botanic Gardens.
The bequest, termed "significant" by Phil Thomsen, secretary of the Bason Botanic Garden Trust, has seen major landscaping completed.
Called the Lakeside project, it includes walkways around the lake and a concreted and grassed terraced area called the Alexander Terraces between the major grassed area and the reserve's largest lake.
Most of the work was completed over the winter and followed designs prepared by Isthmus Landscape Architects of Wellington. The same company designed the walkway which leads onto the new terraces.
Main contractors were Houghton and Gemini Pepper.
