Police are hunting a knife-wielding robber who held up a Wanganui service station and stole tobacco and money. Sergeant Tim Walker said the offender entered the Gonville Service Station on the corner of Carlton Ave and Heads Rd about 11 pm on Thursday and brandished the knife at the sole attendant.
He then left the service station, on foot, but was possibly picked up by a vehicle parked nearby, Mr Smith said.
The man police are seeking is described as a male Maori of solid build, about 1.7 m tall. He was wearing a hoodie and had a ski mask or something similar covering his face.
Mr Smith said a noisy car was seen and heard in the area just before the robbery.
Anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity at the time of the robbery is asked to contact Wanganui Police on (06) 349 0600.
