Advertise with NZME.See a few short films
In upcoming exhibition Legacies, artists Edith Amituanai, Martin Sagadin, Ukrit Sa-nguanhai, Pati Solomona-Tyrell and Sriwhana Spong imagine what a legacy might taste, smell, feel or sound like across five short films. Curated by Circuit curator-at-large Dr May Adadol Ingawanij, the works "proffer a portrait of a young Pasifika matriarch; a reflection on cinema as resistance in cold war Thailand; a painter's studio and the trans-national practice of the artists themselves who work and live between Aotearoa, Bali, Thailand, UK and the wider South Pacific." Open from September 2-October 29 at Artspace Aotearoa, 292 Karangahape Rd, Auckland.
Support the Cancer Society
Friday August 26 is Daffodil Day, a time to show your support for cancer awareness and fundraise for the Cancer Society's work. The charity's collectors will be out on streets around Aotearoa like they have since the initiative began in 1990 so donate if you can, and don a daffodil.

Watch a fantasy
Head on underground to Academy Cinemas' opening night screening of George Miller's new fantasy, Three Thousand Years of Longing. Based on A. S. Byatt's 1994 novella The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye, it follows Dr. Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton) who encounters a djinn (Idris Elba) while attending a conference in Istanbul. It asks that familiar (but always with-strings-attached) genie-in-a-bottle question: what would you do if you were granted three wishes? Thursday September 1 at 6.15pm. Tickets are available at Academycinemas.co.nz
