She is a founding member of the Australian harp septet SHE, and plays casually in the NZSO, Orchestra Wellington, and many other orchestras across Australasia.
In February Bauer won the audition for the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra's Principal Harp position; she will be starting her new job in Auckland in mid-2018. She also holds a masters degree in philosophy.
Batten is Principal Flute for Orchestra Wellington and frequently works with the NZSO. In addition, Batten has a passion for chamber music. She has been part of several groups, including Ethos (flute, clarinet and piano) and Elios (flute and strings) which have toured for Chamber Music New Zealand.
Acheson returned to New Zealand in 2012, after a period of study in America. Acheson has enjoyed working as a freelance musician with the Auckland Philharmonia, Auckland Chamber Orchestra, Bach Musica and the NZSO, until her appointment in 2014 as principal violist of Orchestra Wellington.
TORU's programme showcases the harp, with the viola also featured as a soloist in music by the British post-romantic composer, Arnold Bax.
Debussy popularised this combination of flute, viola, and harp with his Sonate en trio; its magnificently varied timbral palette has since captured the imaginations of composers, performers, and audiences alike.
Undoubtedly drawing on the evocative fantasy of Debussy's writing, the Bax sonata moves from impressionism to melodies and dance rhythms that give the music a distinctly Irish character.
The trio are also including in the quirky and entertaining Zoological character pieces of Wendelin Bitzen.
