The Jennian Homes Mother's Day Fun Run/Walk at Virginia Lake drew in more than 100 - pretty good for a first time, event co-ordinator Kat Wade said.
Starting at 10am after the rain had cleared on May 13, the walkers and runners each got a red T-shirt commemorating 50 years of the Heart Foundation, then had a warm-up session with rowers Rebecca Scown and Simon Watson.
Then they set off to circulate Virginia Lake three times.
Adults paid $25 and children $15, with the money going to the Heart Foundation. Heart disease and heart conditions are the leading cause of death for New Zealand women.
The event was a first for Whanganui but took place in 32 centres. Nearly 10,000 people are estimated to have taken part.
