THIS TOURING LIFE: The man who proved second acts were possible in life, Gene Pitney, is scheduled for a short tour which has him at the Aotea Centre on Saturday, October 14. Pitney scored a string of hits in the 60s (Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa, I'm Gonna Be Strong and the aching Backstage), all but disappeared in the 70s and 80s and returned briefly in the 90s with the one-off hit Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart with Marc Almond.
Pitney has toured relentlessly but, at 59, his distinctive quasi-operatic voice is undiminished according to overseas reports. Tickets through Ticketek from Thursday.
ALSO ARRIVING: Yo La Tengo the pop pranksters and post-punk art rockers who are much loved in New York, live in New Jersey, and record in Nashville, are scheduled to play a Powerstation concert on Wednesday October 11, hard on the heels of Stateside gigs with Ray Davies (of the Kinks), Neil Innes (of the Rutles) and Chris Knox (of Grey Lynn).
Tickets from Real Groovy, and Crawlspace from Thursday.
And Swedish punks No Fun At All play return bouts: State Of It, Napier, Wednesday, October 25; Powerstation, Thursday, October 26.
Both shows are all-ages. Tickets from Real Groovy, Crawlspace, XTSEA, and Tracs in Hamilton from Friday.
TRUE DUB LIVE: Asian Dub Foundation, who play the Powerstation on Tuesday will do an instore at Real Groovy on Monday from 5 pm. Tuesday's gig kicks off at 8 pm and supports are DJs Stinky Jim and Nick D, Hallelujah Picassoes, and King Kapisi. It's all-ages with an R18 bar available. Tickets from Ticketek, Real Groovy, Marbecks, Beat Merchants and Beautiful Music.
