HAMILTON - How do you lose 30 wheelchairs?
Waikato Hospital is trying to work that out after finding that nearly half its non-issue wheelchairs have rolled out of the hospital in the past few years.
The 30 chairs, worth up to $1500 each, are not supposed to leave the hospital but administrator Trevor Ecclestone said they seemed to have gone home with patients and never returned.
Attempts had been made to stop people taking the wheelchairs, he said, such as attaching bars to make it difficult to fold them up, but "the bars just get bashed off."
An amnesty has been declared this week to try to recover the chairs.
