Dame Helen Mirren calls for tighter regulation of Arms trade

In a short film, Dame Helen Mirren, Oxfam Global Ambassador, urges governments to deliver a strong and effective ATT to tackle the irresponsible spread of weapons. The film features a voice-over by Dame Helen Mirren and footage of the actress from a trip to South Africa with Oxfam in 1999, when she met a young girl called Lydia, whose mother had been shot dead in front of her. It was a harrowing meeting that she will never forget. This new film incorporates footage of Lydia then and now. She's now a mum and says: "If the Arms Trade Treaty can prevent one child from losing her mother, isn't it worth it?"
