Wanganui East Petanque Club's star player Christine Strichen was able to call on 60 of her friends and supporters yesterday to give her a helping hand to make it to Thailand.
Strichen and her New Zealand triples teammates held a tournament at the club to raise funds for them to attend the World Women's Championship Triples in Bangkok from November 5-8.
It will be the third time Strichen has represented New Zealand at a world championships, this time teaming with Masterton's Claire Wilson and Napier's Sharon Cannon.
The veteran said she still had to contend with nervousness before competing in such big events.
Strichen, Wilson and Cannon teamed up to win the national women's triples this season and finished runners-up in the national open triples as well.
