A 68-year old woman who bore the full brunt of a supermarket trolley thrown down the Durie Hill steps says she is going through a family group conference with the 14-year old who threw it.
It was a horrifying experience that left her with her nose broken in two places, stitches in her black and blue arm which the trolley had hit full-on.
The woman from Palmerston North, who does not want to be named, is Christian and said there was not enough forgiveness in the world.
On December 29, the woman was visiting Wanganui and had descended 70 steps with her 5-year-old grandson and daughter when the trolley was thrown from above.
It would have hit her grandson but she put herself between him and the trolley as it came hurtling down.
The woman met the youth when she descended the steps to a waiting ambulance.
"I told him that I am nearing the end of my life and he is just starting his, so I told him I forgave him."
The boy cried, and she hoped they were tears of remorse.
She also hopes the family group conference will help change the youth's future for the better.
