Wanganui families are invited to celebrate their children at Sunday's Treasure Our Children event at Springvale Park.
The Skip Whanganui family fun day has brought together different organisations that will contribute to the day, each providing a free family activity and something to take home as well.
Children's Day was first held in the city 13 years ago. Skip Whanganui co-ordinator Lynette Archer said people loved that the event was free and it gave people an opportunity to meet others who offered assistance in taking care of their children.
This year, there will be a stand at Springvale Stadium for feedback.
Mrs Archer said between 500 and 1500 families had attended the event over the years and more than 20 community organisations contributed to the day's activities.
"There will be face painting, fun crafts, resources and other giveaways."
There will be free entry for families to the Splash Centre from 11.30am to 2pm and the Boys' and Girls' Club is hosting three free half-hour sessions between 11.30am and 1pm.
Families are advised to be in quick because numbers are limited.
Other organisations involved in the day are the Well Child Health Coalition - Public Health, Dental Health, Plunket, Te Oranganui, - which will have health information and activities including the Safe Driveway resource, Bizzy Bee Pre-school, YMCA Boogie Buddies, Rutherford Junior High, Wanganui Library & Bus, Kindergarten Association, Whanganui Museum, Montessori, PAUA and PORSE.
