South Wairarapa children will have no excuse to lounge in front of the television or stare at a computer screen during the spring holidays, thanks to a new programme for young people during the school break.
The Pod is South Wairarapa's newest before and after-school care and holiday programme, says Pod manager Sian Paterson.
Based at the former Puzzlewood site in Wood St, Greytown, the Pod offers parents the chance to give children a break from the usual holiday routine and reduce the stress of trying to juggle childcare and work commitments.
As part of an exciting fortnight of activities, the springtime programme will see children join in a day dedicated to wacky hair, with the Pod team on hand with some crazy ideas for using glitter, curlers and spray dye.
Other activities will include a costume party, bouncy castle, face painting, and a firm favourite - the Pod lolly-making day.
"We are making all things sugary and sweets such as home-made sherbet, ice cream, gummy lollies, and then bagging them up for the children to take home and share," Ms Paterson said
"We take no responsibility for hyperactivity levels on pick-up, but the day will help to educate the children about food processes.
"There will also be a picnic in the park and our now traditional game of Pod soccer, as well as the Pod sports championships. We are also hoping to include some dance workshops with a group of Kuranui College dance students, who are planning to teach our children some hip-hop.
"The Kuranui dance group will also be putting on a special performance for the children and it's always great to see the students join in as fun and positive role models."
