The Auckland Women's Health Council is calling on the Ministry of Health to investigate how abortion authorisation forms from the former Rawhiti Trust Hospital in Auckland were left unsecured.
Forms dating back to 1995, containing women's names and addresses were found in a room adjoining the former hospital.
The room has since been secured by police.
Lynda Williams from the Women's Health Council describes the find as outrageous.
She says the incident is an appalling breach of trust and the confidence of the women who used the services of the hospital.
The Abortion Supervisory Committee is also demanding an explanation.
Committee chairwoman Christine Forster says any medical information should be treated with the utmost privacy.
Ms Forster says she hopes to find out what clinic managers and those who run the abortion service will do to ensure the problem does not happen again.
