ANZ network hit by nationwide fault

A technical glitch that hit New Zealand's largest bank today - holding up overnight payments and leaving customers unable to access internet banking - has been resolved.

ANZ Bank's Internet Banking, goMoney for Android and iBank services were unavailable for many customers today, but are now back up and running, according to a post on its Facebook page.

In its latest Facebook update at 4:05pm, the bank apologised to customers and thanked them for their patience.

ANZ first announced the problem at 8am today, informing customers that some payments from other banks had been delayed overnight.

"As a result, some payments for our customers may be delayed up to two hours. We're working on this now and we'll update you shortly."

In a 9am update, customers were told the issue affecting incoming payments had been remedied and the bank was processing them.

Many customers have been calling for more information and expressing their frustration on ANZ's Facebook page.

"Our patience is getting very thin. Get your act together ANZ," said Matthew Wallace.

"Still can't get on, very frustrating when you have creditors to pay," said Deborah Heappey.

It is not the first time this year that ANZ has experienced problems with its network.

A fault on January 31 left many shoppers unable to make transactions using ANZ/National Bank credit and direct debit cards.
