Students at Kaponga Primary School enjoyed a Bike Day at the school on Friday. Principal Shane Downs says "we do this event as a way to promote physical activity" adding that students who don't have a bike have the option in participating in a walk instead on the day.
The younger students spent their day developing their skills on a bike or scooter attempting a variety of obstacle courses and challenges set up in the playground. The older students could choose to go on a bike ride or a walk, with varying lengths of route being offered to cater for all abilities and fitness levels.
Shane says that events such as these are great for developing the students skills in self management and bike safety as well as being a great goal setting exercise.
