Local pets become pin ups for SPCA

By Erika Venter

The SPCA North Taranaki's 2013 calendar features two winning entries from local pet owners.

One is Suzanne Ford's photo of the family's pet labrador, Sam, with daughter Sally's fox terrier-pomeranian cross, Rusty, selected to feature as the main photo for November.

Sam is one of three dogs, two cats, two cows and some rabbits, birds and chooks on the Fords' lifestyle section on East Road, outside Stratford.

"We love animals and Sam has such a good nature. He loves the company of playing with other dogs.

"Sam and Rusty get on very well," says Suzanne.

Last year the family entered a photo of the cats Pussnboots and Jack for the 2012 calendar, but Sam and Rusty are the first models to place as one of the main photos in the calendar competition.

Suzanne says she was very excited when she heard that her photo had been selected as one of the winning shots.

"I couldn't wait to tell the kids." -

Abbey, 13 and Rose, 7, were in on the photo shoot.

The other local winner is Leanne Walker and her dog Scoota (the December winner).

Three more entries were received from Stratford.

Every person who entered the competition has their pet's photo in the calendar, with 12 selected to feature as the main pictures.

The calendars are for sale for $15 each with proceeds going to the North Taranaki SPCA, which covers the Inglewood and Stratford regions. The calendars are available from the SPCA, 75 Colson Rd, New Plymouth, Eves Garden Gallery in Stratford and the Taranaki Veterinary Centre in Stratford.
