'You shut my toe in the plug,' Spid said reproachfully. 'I would have been miles away by now if only you had been more careful.' He was rapidly climbing away down the wastepipe.
'Oh I am sorry! I am!' came Henry's voice, and Spid could see his anxious eye looking at him from above.
"Did it pinch you? Did it hurt?'
'Yes,' said Spid, descending rapidly.
'Oh don't go away,' the boy was begging him. 'I didn't mean it. Come back?! I'll get you out of the bath before I run it. You can sit in my dressing-gown pocket. Do come back!'
Spid stopped, and very slowly began to climb up the pipe again. He liked the boy's voice, and the boy's face, and the boy's name, and he liked the look of the bathroom and the smell of the soap, and he very much liked the idea of making his new home inside a dressing-gown pocket.
It sounded so much more homely than a coal cellar.
