United States president Donald Trump's attempt to bring Olympic champion Usain Bolt into the debate surrounding the national anthem has backfired.

Trump posted a video of Bolt stopping an interview to stand for the national anthem, as part of the president's attack against NFL players.

Several NFL players have taken up Colin Kaepernick's cause, by kneeling during the anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality.

The athletes have stated that their protests aren't about disrespecting the flag, anthem, or country, yet Trump tweeted the video of Bolt to prove his unrelated point.

However, the tweet didn't go down well with Jamaicans, with many wanting Trump to keep Bolt out of the debate entirely.

To top the matter off - Bolt believes that the athletes have a right to kneel.
