Injury-plagued speedster Pat Cummins has been named in Australia's 14-man squad to play New Zealand in the three Chappell-Hadlee ODI matches in Australia early next month.
Cummins has been in and out of Australian teams for several seasons, bugged by injuries but at his best is a seriously quick addition to their fast bowling ranks.
The surprise name is West Australian allrounder Hilton Cartwright, picked for the first time.
"Hilton bowls useful aggressive medium pace and is a very good striker of the ball," interim chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said today.
Hohns is chuffed Cummins is back after "a frustrating period for him. We are certainly excited to have him fit and firing ahead of this series".
New Zealand's squad for the series was to be named today but has been deferred until either Friday or Saturday.
Australian squad: Steve Smith (c), David Warner, Aaron Finch, George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, Matthew Wade, James Faulkner, Hilton Cartwright, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood.
