Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki is on the comeback trail at the US Open in New York.

The unseeded Dane has beaten 9th seed and former champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 6-4 to reach the third round.

Wozniacki is ranked 51 in the world.

Men's defending champion Novak Djokovic has received a walkover win into the third round with his opponent Jiri Vesely failing to recover from a five set first round win.

Kiwis Michael Venus and Marina Erakovic have won their first round doubles matches at the US Tennis Open in New York.

Venus and Croatian partner Mate Pavic have beaten a Chilean Argentine pair 6-4, 6-4.

Erakovic and Spanish partner Arantxa Parra Santonja have won in three sets over a Serbian Romanian combination.
