Watch: Javelin throw goes horribly wrong

Here's how not to throw a javelin.

Utah State's Chari Hawkins was at the US Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Oregon where she was trying to gain qualification for Rio 2016.

Luckily for her, it wasn't in the javelin specifically but rather the heptathlon, of which the javelin event is just one component.

She did bounce back to throw close to 39m but finished in 16th place and is well down the leaderboard on the overall heptathlon standings.

Despite throwing just 27m, at least she got the white flag.
