Portuguese boy provides heartwarming moment of Euro 2016

By John Hutchinson

This is the heartwarming moment a tearful French football fan was consoled by a young Portugal fan.

Sadness was felt all around fan zones in and around Paris following the host nation's shock defeat in the Euro 2016 final to Portugal.

Eder scored the only goal of the game in the second period of extra-time to secure the silverware for Fernando Santos' side.

But this moving footage shows how one bereft fan was comforted by a boy wearing a shirt of the opposite team.

The man, wearing his France football shirt, throws his hands into the air in despair after watching his side lose.

Another fan comes over to whisper words of comfort, but the man continues to cry into his hands.

Then the boy wearing a Portugal shirt comes over, grabs the Frenchman's hand, and tries his best to console him.

The tearful supporter appreciates the kind touch, and putting his thumb up, he leans down to give the small boy a kiss on the head.

As he starts to walk off, the child offers more kind words, and the French supporter, overcome with emotion, leans back in and hugs the boy.
