Kiwi tennis number one Marina Erakovic is through to her first WTA quarter final in more than 14 months.

Erakovic has beaten world number 44 Lesia Tsurenko to reach the last eight at the tournament in Rabat, Morocco.

The New Zealander won the first set 6-4 before her Ukrainian opponent retired due to a leg injury.

Erakovic who came through three rounds of qualifying to make the main draw will face another qualifier, Serbian Aleksandra Krunic for a place in the semis.

She said her form is encouraging after not getting consistent results over the past year.

"It's nice to get a bunch of matches together and it's been good to fight and things are positive."

Meanwhile Artem Sitak and Marcus Daniell have won their first round doubles match at the ATP tournament in Istanbul.
