Ryan Nelsen revealed he would be interested in returning to the All Whites in an off-field role but a busy schedule stands in his way.
After Anthony Hudson said during the week he had sounded out Nelsen about rejoining the national set-up in some capacity, the former captain confirmed he had been in discussions with the new coach.
"We have spoken about it but I'm really busy," Nelsen said in a text message to Radio Sport. "At some time, I would love to help New Zealand Football out in any way I can. Just finding the time is the issue."
Nelsen has been away from football since being sacked by MLS side Toronto FC in August but he's been active away from sport, with burgeoning business interests providing plenty of options for the 37-year-old.
But Nelsen's experience would be invaluable as the All Whites begin their qualification campaign for the 2018 World Cup, with a young side full of promise but short on leaders.
