The Breakers have pushed the league-leading Wildcats to the limit, before falling to a 95-91 Australian NBL loss in Perth.

The three-time defending champions twice closed the gap from an 18 point deficit in the second quarter and again 16 points in the third, without taking the lead.

American import James Ennis, finished with 31 points for the hosts, as he scored the last seven points of the game including a three-pointer with six seconds remaining with the Breakers trailing by just one.

Breakers coach Dean Vickerman says they can take heart from the defeat.

"Obviously we didn't come out totally with the right mindset, but pleasing the way that we turned it around and fought back in the second quarter. There was some quality basketball played throughout that game.''

Gary Wilkinson led the Breakers in scoring with 19.

The Breakers meet the Tigers in Melbourne tomorrow.
