Play of the day: Penalty-kick howler

When taking a penalty kick it simply doesn't get any worse than kicking the ball backwards from the spot.

But Brazilian midfielder Pilo did just that and is responsible for arguably the worst penalty miss of all time after this terrible effort yesterday.

America-SP were trailing at home to Votuporanguense in the lowly Paulista A3 division in Brazil when Pilo had a chance to get his side back into the game from the spot.

Pilo ran up confidently enough... but slipped as he swung his leg backwards and the ball went behind him before it was cleared.

America-SP went on to lose 2-0 but the match will be remembered more for Pilo's disastrous miss.
