Rotorua police Senior Constable Sililo Levae and Tauranga's Rob Lemoto came up with the idea.
Levae explained Lemoto, a television presenter on Police Ten 7, had been involved in Station of Origin events in Auckland in the past. He said they decided it would be a good idea to replicate the concept in the Bay of Plenty.
"He was talking about doing something similar over here because it is a very well-organised event in Auckland."
Levae said it was both a good fundraiser for the RotoVegas Boxing Gym, who are helping organise the event, and an opportunity for police across the Bay of Plenty to get to know each other.
"And for everyone it is a personal journey, everyone is scared - it is a lonely place being in the ring with just you and one other person - and it is a good way to build that special bond within our district."
Levae fought in the last corporate fight night in Rotorua but is not fighting in the up-coming Station of Origin, instead he is helping coach and manage the red team.
He said the fighters from Rotorua and Tokoroa were meeting four times a week to train at the RotoVegas Boxing Gym.
"For our team, it is pretty much everyone's first time," he said. "They are really enjoying it. After the first punch on the nose I think some of the girls were like 'I don't know if I should be doing this' ... but they have come back and are right into it."
RotoVegas Boxing Gym head coach Aaron Warren said he was enjoying helping coach the police.
"It's been awesome. There is some really good people behind those blue uniforms," he said. "They are getting right into it and it is testing their character in a lot of ways but they are coming right."
He said Commonwealth Games gold medallist boxer David Nyika would be attending the fight night to present awards.
Warren said money raised on the night would cover the cost of training 40 local children at the boxing gym.
The feature fight will be the pro debut of Rotorua's Tyrone Warren, whose opponent is to be confirmed.
