A doggy daycare assistant job that attracted 4200 views on Trade Me and attracted countless applications has been snagged by Brya McNicholas.
It comes as the latest quarterly figures from Trade Me - to September - show there has been a 5.2 per cent increase year-on-year for job listings in the city alongside a 4.2 per cent jump in salaries over the same timeframes.
The vacancy posted by Rotorua's Grange Spa K9 Resort in August received an overwhelming response and had to be pulled down from the site, manager Kate Teao said.
She interviewed 12 contenders and said her inbox was clogged up for a month.
But the business, which also has a branch in Tauranga, is used to fielding massive amounts of inquiries when searching for staff.
''It seems to be a job, I guess where people think that they are just going to play with dogs.''
However ''dogs are noisy and they are like naughty children'' and staff needed to have the right experience to control them, she said.
Ms McNicholas, who has a diploma in vet nursing and two dogs of her own, said it was her dream job.
The 24-year-old learned about dog behaviour through her studies and said it was great to be able to apply those skills.
''We have definitely got social circles with the dogs and they have their own personalities.''
Being able to come up with ideas and working alongside supportive colleagues while meeting 'human owners' were other highlights.
''I'd describe this job as really fun.''
