Rotorua's Brew Bar brought a slightly more adult approach to this year's SPCA Cupcake day.
The annual fundraiser provides a tasty way for New Zealanders to "bake" a difference in the fight against animal cruelty.
This year Brew Bar got involved, selling $3 cupcakes, laced with ale, for the cause.
Barmaid Emma Horgan said they wanted to get behind Cupcake Day because it was just a great cause.
"Crouchers like to support local charities, and for the past year we've been supporting the SPCA through our Hair of the Dog Ale," she said.
Since May Brew has been selling its 'SPCAle' with $1 from each pint going to the SPCA.
So for Cupcake Day they thought it was only fitting to add the ale to the cakes.
"The beer is baked into the cupcakes," Miss Horgan said.
"Don't worry though, because they're baked they don't actually have any alcohol in them."
Miss Horgan said the beer-laced cupcakes were delicious and the punters seemed to agree, with half of them sold by 1pm.
Cupcake Day is the SPCA's fun, community-driven annual fundraiser with all proceeds going towards protecting abused, neglected, injured and abandoned animals.
Since 2009, supporters of the charity have raised more than $2million through the baking and selling of cupcakes and other treats.
All the funds raised go directly towards helping animals in bakers' local areas. The SPCA aims to raise $400,000 through Cupcake Day sales this year.
Rotorua SPCA general manager Sue Kinsella said the day had been going well.
"We are stoked with all the community support and volunteer help to make the day happen," she said.
Mrs Kinsella and her team were selling the cupcakes through till 5.30pm yesterday.
Fresh Choice, New World, Countdown Central Mall and Fairy Springs, Vet Plus, the Agrodome, BNZ, Scion, NZME and schools across Rotorua all got behind the cause.
