A flurry of events have taken place this weekend for the annual Rotorua Bike Festival, with seven more days of biking fun to go.
Rotorua Bike Festival director Megan Dimozantos said the first weekend had been successful, with about 3500 participants and spectators going to events.
She said all the events had good numbers and previously held events had seen bigger numbers.
Ms Dimozantos said there were still some new, exciting events coming up and next weekend would include a favourite from previous years, Ride the Runway.
She said they had been getting involved in the Rotorua Bike Festival for about four years and thought the racecourse event would be a good one to be added again.
Another event held at the weekend was Frocks on Bikes.
Rotorua Lakes Council sustainability officer Rachel Doelman said the youngest rider was 4 and the oldest was 85.
Rotorua's Lise Matchitt said she went along thinking it would be great fun.
"It's just a bit of fun - a bit of a twist on an ordinary bike ride."

Ms Matchitt grew up in Denmark and believed there were more bikes in Copenhagen than cars.
She liked biking because it meant she was out in the fresh air, with the wind blowing past.
Local Greta Anema, 85, said every year she joined Frocks on Bikes in the Rotorua Bike Festival.
She said she enjoyed the company, fresh air and scenery.
