A man who fell from the first floor balcony of a hotel in Whakatane last month remains in a critical but stable condition, supported by his family.

The man sustained serious injuries in the fall from the Craic Hotel balcony, in the early hours of Saturday October 1.

"We are in contact with this man's family who are understandably very worried about his medical condition and really want to know how this happened," Detective Sergeant Darren Thomas of Whakatane Police said.

While three men have already been charged with assault in relation to the incident, the police investigation is ongoing.

"We are grateful to the local community for providing valuable information that has helped us progress this investigation," Mr Thomas said.

"The Craic Hotel was fairly busy at the time and we're still keen to hear from anyone who may have been there, or around that area on October 1."

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything in relation to this incident is asked to contact Mr Thomas on (07) 308 5255.

Alternatively, you can give information anonymously through Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
