Ben Tolich aka Mali Mali.

Ben Tolich aka Mali Mali is a quirky musician who "pushes the experimental grid to suit his inquisitive nature", according to Rogue Lounge creator Karin Vincent.

The Auckland-based singer songwriter is performing tomorrow night at the Rogue Lounge.

"He ditched a recording engineer for his album As a Dog Dreams, recording it in his basement. He knew nothing about home recording and learnt as he went," Ms Vincent said.

She said the result was a fine album. He backed that up with a second album, which was chosen by Simon Sweet to be in his top five albums for June 2016.

Opening the stage for him is poet David Merritt.
