Strong demand for homes continues in Rotorua with some real estate agents saying buyers have a "whole new level of appreciation" of what the region offers.
Figures released by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) yesterday showed sales were up 77 per cent for September, compared to the same month last year. There were 128 sales made last month, a leap from 72 during the same period in 2014.
That followed similar jumps in July and August at 72 and 118 per cent respectively.
The median house price was $264,500, up 7 per cent compared to last month, but down from the September 2014 median of $287,000. The average sale took 32 days.
Professionals McDowell Real Estate principal Ian McDowell said his agents had been "very, very busy".
"Last month was a big month. There are a lot of buyers around and the listings are getting shorter. It certainly is a very active market and I hope it continues," Mr McDowell said.
