The Vegas Vindaloo is being held this weekend, which sees a number of mountain bike-orienteering events being held at different locations in and around the city.
Orienteering Bay of Plenty (OBOP) has organised three events - a sprint in central Rotorua at the Government Gardens tomorrow morning, classic long courses through parts of Whakarewarewa Forest in the afternoon, and a two-hour rogaine based at Rotokakahi (Green Lake) on Sunday morning, complete with a chilli challenge.
The chilli challenge is a fun element designed for competitors who want to score extra points at the end of the event by eating super hot curry.
This is the fourth year the Vindaloo weekend has run in the city and according to OBOP organiser, Peter Swanson, it "offers a spicy mix of mountain bike racing with a mental twist, where people can find their own level of challenge and adventure, in a friendly, social setting".
He said the mountain bike/orienteering combination usually attracted between 50 and 200 competitors and had started to build in popularity in recent years.
